Multi-Unit Garage & Storage Areas

Thieves working to access multi-unit residential building garage & storage areas over the past week have resulted in several calls for police assistance.

Two multi-unit buildings in the Cypress Bowl Road area were targeted. In one building, thieves managed to break in through a side entrance, then accessed the lobby, garage & storage area and one suite. A tablet computer was stolen from the suite.  Multiple delivery packages in the lobby were opened, while two vehicles were broken into.

In the same area, suspects pried open a single unit garage door in a multi-unit building, stealing an e-Bike & skis.

In the Ambleside area, building managers in two separate buildings discovered damage to handles & locks on storage unit doors. No entry to the storage units was gained.

We encourage residents of multi-unit buildings to remain alert to any suspicious persons or vehicles in or around your building.  Take a moment to check if you recognize any person or vehicle attempting to follow you in through any resident only secured door.  Don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police if you see anyone or anything you consider suspicious.

Mischief

Officers are investigating after multiple glass windows were broken at both Ridgeview & Cedardale Elementary schools this week.  Anyone in the area who may have information to assist our officers is asked to call our non-emergency line at 604-925-7300.

Fraud

The “Fake Emergency Scam” resurfaced this week. A resident received text messages from unknown number, with a suspect claiming to be their daughter texting from friend’s phone after losing her own. The suspect then claimed daughter needed funds for urgent payment. Unfortunately, funds were transferred & lost before resident realized the messages were fraudulent. If you receive this kind of message, find a secondary way to contact the family member before sending any money.

Tech Can Help

Personal technology did help this week after a resident reported theft of items from their parked vehicle in the Marine Drive/Taylor Way area. Tracking devices on the stolen items led officers to a male suspect already under investigation for unrelated offences.  The suspect was arrested without incident and all stolen items were recovered.
