Don’t Help Create Crimes Of Opportunity

The importance of not leaving easy targets for theft is illustrated again in our latest Crime Alerts.

Suspects managed to access the mailbox area of an Ambleside area multi-unit building this week, pried open mailboxes and stole mail items.  As with mail thefts in single family residences, motivated offenders can pry mailboxes open if given the opportunity.  We urge you to reduce the risk of loss by checking & clearing your mailbox on any day you could expect delivery. Making this part of your daily routine can also reduce your risk of losing any delivery items.

Meanwhile, storage lockers were targeted in another Ambleside area multi-unit building after thieves managed to first access underground parking.  An unlocked vehicle was also targeted.

Thefts from Auto

While most of us don’t miss stormy winter nights, please remember summer weather also makes it more comfortable for thieves quietly walking neighbourhoods in late evening & overnight. Several Thefts from Auto this week again involve vehicles left unsecured with valuable items inside.  Items stolen included tools, cheque books, & insurance documents.

Mind Your Valuables In Public

Two separate theft reports this week involved residents leaving purses & cellphones briefly unattended in a restaurant & a coffee shop.  Better to risk losing a table while you pick up your food order than to return and find your valuables gone.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
