Next Block Watch Crime Alerts/Coordinator’s Update – January 8th, 2026
Tech Helps
Personal technology helped land a suspect in custody this week. A victim of theft contacted West Vancouver Police after an app on a stolen laptop tracked the device to the area of Lions Gate Bridge. Officers responded and observed a suspect in possession of a backpack matching the bag the victim’s laptop had been in when taken. After further investigation, a suspect was arrested without incident and the victim’s belongings were recovered.

Before You Go Away
Please take time ahead of any planned holiday trips to ensure your property will be fully secured while you’re away. Confirm that your alarm system is working and properly set. Take time to ensure any surveillance cameras are clear of any obstructions.
We encourage you to have a family member, trusted local friend or neighbour check your property regularly and clear any delivery items. Avoid leaving any gifts, wrapped or otherwise, where they can be seen through an exterior window. Avoid sharing any travel plans on social media in advance or during your trip.
If you rely on a web-based security camera or alarm system that delivers alerts to a smart phone or tablet, remember your system will not be able to deliver an alert if your device is away from internet either on airplane mode or elsewhere. A friend or family member able to monitor your alarm locally can help alert police more quickly of any issues at your home
**Please review our Crime Alerts. If you become aware of an offence in your neighbourhood area, we encourage you to review your own home surveillance system for any suspicious persons or activity on your own property. Please don’t hesitate to contact Police if you note anything of interest.**
Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
