Quick Calls To Police – Quick Arrests

We are always grateful for watchful residents and businesses calling quickly when crimes are occurring.  More examples this week of how that can support a quick and effective response by officers.

A suspect entered an electronics retailer in the Marine Drive & Taylor Way area this week and stole an electric scooter. Store staff immediately called police & relayed information regarding suspect description & direction of travel.  Officers patrolling on e-Bikes in the area quickly tracked the suspect.  Officers caught up with and apprehended the suspect on Lions Gate Bridge.

Meanwhile, Multiple callers quickly reported a male assaulting two people onboard a transit bus. Patrol officers responded immediately, located & safely arrested the suspect.

If you see a crime occurring, get yourself to a place of safety and call police immediately.  Good information on a suspect’s appearance and direction of travel greatly assists our officers responding.

Thinking About A Block Watch Get-Together? Think About A Neighbourhood Small Grant

We encourage all West Vancouver Block Watch groups to meet at least once a year, to renew acquaintance with your neighbours, ensure contact details of participating residents are up to date, and review any public safety issues in your neighbourhood.

Your Block Watch Coordinator, and members of our Community Services Team are happy to attend with information & updates.  The West Vancouver Foundation wants you to know there is grant support you can apply for to help host these gatherings, under the Neighbourhood Small Grants program, administered locally by the Foundation.

The Neighbourhood Small Grants program was started to combat loneliness and social isolation, by making communities stronger, safer, and more welcoming.  By offering a small grant (up to $500), to residents, the Foundation enables applicants to advance projects, including annual gatherings of your Block Watch group that include sharing updated information regarding Community Safety or vital Emergency Preparedness Strategies for risks like Urban Interface Wildfires that could impact neighbourhoods across the North Shore. If you would like to stage your own Neighbourhood Small Grant project, bringing your neighbourhood together to connect and learn more about Block Watch, visit www.westvanfoundation.ca/nsg for more information. The application deadline for 2025 Grants is April 18th.
