Travel & Residential Break-Ins
This week’s Crime Alerts carry a sad reminder of the need to address home security before heading away for a trip. Two separate families in the Dundarave area returned from Spring Break trips to discover their homes had been broken into. No alarms were triggered in either.
A break-in was discovered resident of the Eagle Harbour / Kew Beach area contacted police after checking his home surveillance cameras and discovering they had suddenly stopped working. No alarm was active. Officers attended to confirm a break-in with several rooms rummaged & personal vehicles unaccounted for.
We urge you to review your home security and confirm your home security systems are functioning properly before you go. Consider having a family member or friend check your home while you are away and to ensure any delivery items are cleared to reduce visible indications of the home being unoccupied.
Park & Trailhead Thefts From Auto
Theft reports from the Lighthouse Park area this week provide an important reminder as Spring weather brings more out to enjoy outdoor spaces. Four separate Theft from Auto reports were received from Lighthouse Park of vehicles with windows smashed, backpacks, wallets, cash, bankcards & ID were among items stolen.
Please avoid leaving any items of value in vehicles being left unattended. Consider carrying your backpack & wallet with you. If you must store something in your car when leaving for a walk or hike, put the item in your trunk prior to arriving, so any suspect watching the parking area does not see the item of value being placed in the car and see you leaving.
Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
