Deputy Chief Constable
Deputy Chief Constable Shane Barber began his career with the West Vancouver Police in 1987 as a Patrol Constable.
In the years since, Deputy Chief Barber has served in virtually every area of the WVPD, including Patrol, Traffic, Planning and Research, Training and Recruiting and Criminal Investigations.
He was promoted to Corporal in 1998, Sergeant in 2002, Staff Sergeant in 2008 and to the rank of Inspector in 2013 when he was assigned as the Officer In Charge of the Operations Division.
Deputy Chief Barber is primarily responsible for leading the department's operations and the implementation of the new WVPD Strategic Plan in areas that address operations performance or improvement.
Deputy Chief Barber holds a diploma in Criminal Justice from the University of the Fraser Valley, a Master of Arts degree from Royal Roads University and a Certificate in Strategic Leadership from the Sauder School of Business at UBC.
Deputy Chief Barber is the recipient of two Chief Constable's Commendations, the Police Exemplary Long Service Medal from the Governor-General of Canada, and the Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Valour.
